Aces and Eights Video Poker

The game of Aces and Eights Video Poker has a long history, even before it was made into a Video Poker game. It has been called the 'Dead Man's Hand', and was supposed to be the hand that Wild Bill Hickok was holding when he was shot and killed in 1876, it has been said that it was during this game, Hickok had made his discard and was about to draw a fifth card that the game suddenly ended with the sound of gunfire. He was holding two pairs, Aces and Eights. Reportedly, the next card that would have been added to his hand was the 5 of Diamonds and was on display at the Stardust Casino in Las Vegas.

The game is played with a standard deck of 52 cards, no wilds, and the hand rankings include three types of Four of a Kinds, Four Aces or Eights, Four Sevens and Four of anything else. The Four Aces or Eights pay 400 coins, Four Sevens pay 250 coins and all other Four of a Kinds pay 100 coins. The Royal Flush is the highest paying hand at 4000 coins, and a Straight Flush round off the top hands by paying 350 coins. The minimum winning hand is Two Pairs, while the lowest winning hand is Two Pairs.

This is one of the more popular Video Poker games, with chances to win more on the hand combinations than many of the other game variations. The coin denominations are the same as with most other Video Poker games, $0.25 to $5.00, translating to $1.25 to $25.00 per hand. But with the added Four of a Kind payouts, it's a much more exciting and challenging game to play. As with all Video Poker games, you are dealt five cards and given a chance to hold or discard up to 5 cards to improve your hand. Once you have drawn new cards, you will be paid according to the paytable on the hand combination dealt.

Aces and Eights can be played at most online casinos, for the most part each casino will offer the same payouts for the different hands. There are exceptions (depending on software), so be sure to check the games out before you play. The payouts listed below are the best you'll find, so compare casinos before you deposit your money. A safe bet is to always play with a known brand of casino such as Microgaming, Playtech, RTG, RivalGaming, Vegas Technology and a few other leading software providers.
