Jacks or Better Video Poker

This game has been called the Grand Daddy of Video Poker because it was the first game offered and a lot of the variations are based on this games rules and hand rankings (With their own twist added to differentiate the games, of course). Jacks or Better is played with a standard deck of 52 cards and no wilds. The highest paying hand is the Royal Flush and the lowest paying hand is a pair of Jacks or Better. The 'Better' means that you only get paid out on hands that are at least a pair of Jacks. Pairs of 10's and below are worthless.

Jacks or Better Video Poker is one of the main targets in online casinos' Video Poker offerings because so many people are familiar with it. Most people actually learned to play this game first. It has a drawing effect in that it's simple and pays well on poker hands that nearly everyone is already familiar with. Five cards are dealt using a standard 52-card deck, and there are no wilds. The object of the game is to make the best five-card poker hand possible with the cards you are dealt. You get one chance to discard and draw new cards, and can get rid of as many as you want, or you can stand Pat and keep the original hand you were dealt.

To make the most out of Jacks or Better, keep this in mind: Know the game well. This includes the hand rankings, the game payouts and the overall casino payout percentage. The hand rankings are not the same with all Video Poker games and it can be easy to get them confused. At the top of the games you'll find the paytable, this will show you the hand ranking and what amount is paid for each according to the number of coins you've bet. In Jacks or Better, to find the best paying machine, look for games that are called Full Pay. What this means is that you are awarded 9 coins for a Full House and 6 coins for a Flush. You'll get a much better payout percentage off this type of game as opposed to a Short Pay game - one that pays 8/5.

Finally, much depends on the casino you choose. The casinos we feature on our site are all approved online casinos that have met our strict criteria. Each one has better than average payout percentages, which can be found on the casino website. You should never settle for an online casino with video poker payouts not in the upper nineties percentile.
